Part 2: Relationship Between the Moon, the Earth, and the Sun
During this part students will be learning about the relationship between the Moon, the Sun, and the Earth and how this relationship affects the times that the Moon rises and sets each day.
The following definitions may be helpful for this part of the lab.
Rise Time
The time at which a celestial object becomes visible or moves above the horizon.
Meridian transit time
The time at which a celestial object passes through the local meridian (through both the north and south celestial poles and an observer's zenith).
Set Time
The time at which a celestial object is no longer visible or moves below the horizon.
Azimuth
The angle around the horizon, starting from the Sun and increasing counterclockwise.
Students should complete the table below using the provided Moon, Earth, and Sun wheel. An image of the wheel can be seen below on the right.
