Part 1: Simulating the Phases of the Moon

In the first part of the lab students will simulating the phases of the Moon using a desk lamp, a styrofoam ball, and themselves.  The setup for this simulation can be seen in the following image.  Their TA will also provide a demonstration of what the simulation should look like.

Learning Goals

Students will develop a better understanding of the causes of the phases of the Moon and be able to describe why the Moon rises and sets at different times each day.  Finally, students will learn more about the flight path of the Artemis I mission and be able to describe when a desginated image may been taken on this flight path.
